Cloudways vs. Bluehost: What is the Best Bang For Buck Hosting For Your Website

The most important part of hosting is the speed it provides for your website. According to Google’s 2018 research, 53% of mobile users leave a site that takes longer than 3 seconds to load.

This is why picking the right hosting provider is so important. When I first started my WordPress website, theincomezap.com, I needed to pick a hosting provider.

I searched “best web hosting” on Google, and all the top blogs told me that Bluehost was the best option.

At first, I did decide to choose Bluehost. I purchase the Choice Plus plan for a one-time payment of $89.40 for the whole year.

However, after a few months with Bluehost, I was not satisfied with the performance and looked for a better alternative.

I came across Cloudways, tried out their free trial, and immediately noticed stunning differences.

Cloudways is not shared-hosting like Bluehost, where your website is always slow. Cloudways is a managed cloud hosting platform with an easy-to-use interface, so you can get all the advantages of cloud hosting, without needing a Ph.D. in computer science to know how to use it.

You get to choose from 5 different cloud providers such as Amazon Web Servers, Google Cloud Platform, Digital Ocean, Linode, and Vultr. All of these are reliable options.

I decided to purchase the 1GB Digital Ocean server for $10/month as it was the cheapest option.

Over a year-long period, this only costs $30 more than the Bluehost plan, but it’s worth every penny. Here’s why!

Front End Load Speed

Immediately, I saw my website’s front end load much faster. To measure my load speed, I used a website called GTMetrix. With Bluehost, I had a D grade, but as soon as I switch over to Cloudways, my grade jumped to an A.

This improvement from a D grade to an A grade meant that my now website took around 1.5 seconds to load instead of 5 seconds. This is a very impressive improvement.

Back End Speed

Initially, I was really only thinking about speeding up the front end of my website for users; I didn’t realize how slow my WordPress back end was.

Cloudways has a server-side caching called Redis. Redis makes the experience in my WordPress dashboard lightning-fast.

This feature alone boosted my productivity and motivation to get work done. Now I didn’t have to deal with the annoying loading, every time I pressed something in the dashboard, as I previously had to when working on my website.

Just One Click

Everything on Cloudways is so easy to use. It takes just one click for website cloning, backups, SSL security, server-side caching, and more.

If you are ever confused, they have 24/7 customer support that really is world-class. I’ve probably had my best experience with Cloudways customer support. They are super knowledgeable and clearly not going off any script; they know how to help.

Lastly, because this is cloud hosting if your website grows and you need more server space, you can easily scale up with one click at a moment’s notice. This is not so easy with other hosting options.

Final Take

Don’t fall for the marketing hype of Bluehost. Whether you are a beginner or a veteran, I think Cloudways really is one of the best hosting options, period.

The incredible amount of value you get for the price you pay is just undeniable.
